Vishwanathan, a Kathak dance teacher in New York, is happy in his marriage with Nirupama, a nuclear oncologist who married him to pursue higher studies in the USA. Deciding to cut ties with her husband, Nirupama hires a private detective to monitor his activities. To her utter shock, certain truths about her husband are subsequently revealed, setting off a chain of events that will change both of their lives irreversibly.

Vishwaroopam is a 2013 Indian action spy film in Tamil and Hindi languages co-written, directed and produced by Kamal Haasan, who also enacts the lead role. The film also stars Rahul Bose, Shekhar Kapur, Pooja Kumar, Andrea Jeremiah, Nassar and Jaideep Ahlawat in supporting roles. The film's script was written by Kamal Hassan, Chakri Toleti and Atul Tiwari. Set in New York City, Nirupama, an ambitious nuclear scientist, marries an effeminate coward classical dancer, Viswanathan. On being suspicious of his behaviour, she hires a detective and in turn gets entangled with a terrorist cell, revealing his true identity and past.
