The film follows Alex Hesse, an Austrian-American scientist who agrees to undergo a male pregnancy from a newly developed drug Expectane. The film marked the third and last collaboration for Reitman and Schwarzenegger, succeeding Twins (1988) and Kindergarten Cop (1990), as well as the second and last collaboration for DeVito, Reitman, and Schwarzenegger, succeeding Twins.
