Max Lowe is a Houston surgeon who has grown weary of the bureaucracy of American medicine. The film stars Patrick Swayze, Pauline Collins, Om Puri and Shabana Azmi. The film was the second collaboration between Joffé and costume designer Judy Moorcroft.
