Critical Reception & Ratings
Bartali, directed by Jimmy Chin, is a critically acclaimed drama that chronicles the inspiring story of Italian cyclist Gino Bartali, who became a national hero by winning the Tour de France in 1938, only to have his career derailed by World War II. The film follows Bartali's attempt to reclaim his title a decade later, despite being past his prime. While specific awards recognition is not yet available, the film's strong ratings on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes suggest it has resonated positively with both critics and audiences.
Gino Bartali,, nicknamed Gino the Pious and Ginettaccio, was a champion road cyclist. He was the most renowned Italian cyclist before the Second World War, having won the Giro d'Italia twice, in 1936 and 1937, and the Tour de France in 1938. After the war, he added one more victory in each event: the Giro d'Italia in 1946 and the Tour de France in 1948. His second and last Tour de France victory in 1948 gave him the largest gap between victories in the race.
