Mike Bonifer is a filmmaker with a distinctive eye for the quirky and offbeat. His work is marked by a playful, irreverent sensibility that finds comedy in the mundane and drama in the unexpected. Bonifer first made a name for himself with his 1994 short film "Lipstick Camera," a delightfully deadpan mockumentary that follows the exploits of a quirky inventor trying to market his unorthodox camera design. The film's keen observational humor and affectionate treatment of its eccentric protagonist set the tone for much of Bonifer's later work. He would go on to apply this same sensibility to his 2003 comedy "Old School: Orientation," which offers a hilariously gonzo behind-the-scenes look at the making of a low-budget student film. But Bonifer has proven himself adept at more than just comedy. His 1995 documentary "Making 'Toy Story'" provides a fascinating, fly-on-the-wall glimpse into the pioneering computer animation studio Pixar, offering viewers an intimate, human perspective on the creation of a groundbreaking cinematic landmark. Throughout his diverse filmography, Bonifer has demonstrated a talent for finding the extraordinary within the ordinary, and for infusing even his most outlandish stories with a warmth and empathy that make them wholly compelling.
